I've recent begun paying more attention to the behaviors and actions of average, every day people as well as actions of business and industry around me and I've come to realize that there are some problems with some of the American people. Yes, that's right, the average every day person is not always doing the right or smart thing. This is NOT about people doing stupid things. There are plenty of web sites and blogs about that, this is about something deeper. Subtleties in our culture that are just wrong even though some appear to be perfectly normal.
I am going to try and organize a class for each new post that will reflect the kind of failure I am talking about. The first three that I've come up with so far are:
1. Morals failure
2. Values failure
3. Citizenship failure
I have two examples to start off but this only be as a test.
The first example is called "Gassy Smoky Lady" and is a Citizenship failure (as well as probably all imaginable kinds).
I had stopped at my usual gas station early one morning for some gas when I looked over to the next pump and saw this normal looking, typical female citizen of about 50 years of age pumping gas with a lit cigarette in her hand. Inexcusable and quite stupid. I was going to be just in time for work so I didn't have time to question her about it. Should this blog be a good idea with some support, I would like to interview someone like this and even try to get a photo.
The next example is called "What Country am I in?" and features Okeeheelee Middle School in Greenacres, Florida. Citizenship failure.
I was attending a school band concert one evening at Okeeheelee Middle School, enjoying the fresh, young musicians playing their songs and doing very well at it. I was having a great time until I noticed it. I actually noticed right away but it didn't start to bother me until about the second song. It just wasn't there. Even after the concert, I went up on stage and looked backstage for it and it just wasn't there. I couldn't believe my own eyes. There was no American Flag on stage as is typical with every school auditorium I had ever been in. I looked around the entire room and I was horrified by the feeling that I truly did not know what country I was in. I knew intellectually but there was no feeling behind it. A few days later, my wife and I had a teacher conference with all my child's teachers a half hour before school started. These are done in the media center (the library for crying out loud, why give it a fancy name?). I had never been in there before and now I never want to go back. I was sick to my stomach as I looked around the room. Each one given the honor of having it's own pole and bracket as they completely encircled the room above the cases of books. Flags. Country Flags. Dozens of them. The part that made me really sick? NOT ONE of them was the American Flag! Once again, Old Glory was no where to be found. Aside from these two examples out of this school, they appear really bent on promoting any nation BUT America. There are shirts on the walls in the media center promotion Columbia and the Principal even told a gathered audience once that we should not expect Spanish speakers to learn English but we should instead teach our children Spanish! WOW! THAT ONE really floored me!
Again, I would love to have reason to interview those responsible for these failures and even include photo's.
At this time, I see no way to add photo's so if anyone knows, I'd love a little help with that.
I would also like to expand at some point to let others submit content but not until I decide to go through with this.
Peace to you all and God Bless America.
